About Coastal Source
Built for the Realities of Florida Outdoor Living.
Coastal Source was founded in 2009 in Marathon, Florida, by the D’Ascanio brothers, whose sister company, D’Asign Source, has spent decades designing and building waterfront homes throughout the Florida Keys. After years of seeing outdoor speakers, lighting, and other equipment fail in the harsh coastal environment, they decided to create products that could withstand it.
That experience continues to shape every Coastal Source product. Sealed connectors help protect against salt air and moisture. Landscape lighting is made from solid cast brass rather than materials that can quickly corrode in coastal conditions. Speaker enclosures use durable roto-molded composite construction and built-in drainage to help manage moisture in outdoor installations.
The result is a product line designed specifically for demanding outdoor environments. Coastal Source designs and performance-tests products in the Florida Keys before they reach dealers, with the Zimmermann family at Artcraft Group in New Jersey handling manufacturing.
Coastal Source captures its approach in three simple words: “Defy the Elements.” For homeowners and integrators in Florida, that means more than a tagline. It means outdoor audio and lighting systems designed to perform reliably year after year, even in an environment where heat, humidity, salt, and rain can quickly take a toll on lesser equipment.
Definitive Electronics is a Platinum Coastal Source dealer and installer. We design, engineer, install, and service Coastal Source outdoor audio, landscape lighting, and power systems for residential properties throughout South and Central Florida.

Florida Conditions
Salt, Storms, Sand, and Fertilizer.
Outdoor technology in Florida faces conditions that indoor equipment was never designed to withstand. Salt air can travel well inland, summer heat and humidity are relentless, afternoon storms can drench a property for months, and irrigation systems regularly expose outdoor equipment to water, fertilizers, and chemicals. Coastal and waterfront homes face even greater exposure, particularly during tropical storms and hurricanes. These conditions create predictable points of failure, so outdoor technology must be designed for the environment from the start.
Designed, Engineered, and Manufactured for the Subtropics
Hot, Sunny, Humid, Wet. (no problem)
Salt Air and Galvanic Corrosion
Solid cast brass and sealed IP68 connections eliminate dissimilar-metal joints and exposed copper, where corrosion typically starts.
Standing Water and Saturated Soil
Roto-molded enclosures with internal moisture drains, IP67-sealed LED modules, and connectors rated for direct burial.
Irrigation and Fertilizer Chemistry
Brass fixtures patina rather than corrode, and there is no painted stake at grade to blister and peel.
Ultraviolet Exposure
Colors are molded directly into the enclosure rather than painted on, and grille systems are designed to shed water and resist UV exposure.
Lightning and Power Quality
Amplifiers, transformers, and controls placed on protected circuits, with surge protection and clean grounding treated as part of the design.
Landscape Maintenance and Growth
Plug-and-play cabling makes it easy to relocate fixtures as plants and hedges grow, and if a cable or connector is damaged during routine landscape maintenance, you can replace it quickly without cutting into or rewiring the system.
Storm Preparation
Components can be secured quickly when a storm approaches, and the system is designed to return to normal operation smoothly once power is restored.

Bollard Series
Ellipse Bollard Speakers
Coastal Source’s Bollard speakers helped define its approach to high-performance outdoor audio: exceptional sound, rugged construction, and a design that can blend into the landscape.
The original 10.0 Bollard became one of the company’s signature products, combining full-range audio with a durable enclosure designed specifically for demanding outdoor environments. The speakers can be installed partially or fully below grade, allowing much of the enclosure to disappear into the landscape while maintaining powerful, well-distributed sound.
The current 1000 Series builds on that legacy with a completely reimagined platform. It features a color-through rotomolded composite enclosure, weatherized ribbon tweeter, modular design, and enhanced power handling and bass performance. Multiple configuration and installation options let you tailor the system to each property’s size, layout, and aesthetics.
The 1000 Series also earned a CEDIA Best of Show Award in 2025, reflecting its combination of high-performance audio, flexible installation, and the environmental durability Coastal Source is known for.
Razor Series
Razor Architectural Speakers
For walls, hardscape, and soffits where there is no bed to plant a speaker in. Razor speakers are at least four inches deep and come in three sizes across eight models, from the RZ110 two- and three-way satellite models to the RZ320 and RZ330 soundbars, the RZ340 line source, and the RZ350 quad-driver subwoofer.
Getting real output from a four-inch-deep cabinet requires custom, ultra-shallow drivers and the Acoustic Fractal Waveguide tweeter bridge. In a modern Florida home, it’s often the only speaker that respects the architecture.
In-Ceiling Speakers
Ovation Speakers
A patented elliptical design that fits a larger driver through a smaller ceiling opening, which produces a wide natural soundstage from fewer speakers. The grille sits nearly flush, so on a lanai, cabana, or breezeway ceiling it reads as a detail rather than a device.
Ovation won a 2025 CEDIA Innovation Award from Residential Tech Today and a CE Pro BEST Award. It’s the usual answer for covered outdoor rooms where a bollard would be visually intrusive and a soffit speaker is the right call.
Landscape Speakers
Contour Speakers
The entry point into the Coastal Source speaker line. A rigid one-piece composite enclosure, under seven inches tall, featuring a custom coaxial driver with a one-inch tweeter, a 5.25-inch mid-bass woofer, and a specially designed fractal waveguide tweeter bridge. Perfect for landscapes, garden beds, hardscapes, or under soffits, these speakers blend in wherever you place them on your property.
Pathway Speakers
Pathfinder Speakers
An omnidirectional 30-watt speaker with two active three-inch full-range speakers and two passive radiators in an acoustic suspension enclosure, firing at 38 degrees. It presents as a 32-ohm load, so eight units can run on a single amplifier channel. That makes even coverage along walkways, side gardens, or out to a gazebo practical rather than expensive. Color-through roto-molded enclosures, aluminum grilles, and a five-year warranty.
High-Performance Bass
CUBE Subwoofer
A 17-inch audiophile bass reflex enclosure with a 10-inch fiberglass bass driver, 350-watt power handling, a two-inch in/out voice coil, and a linear, silicone-impregnated Conex aramid dual-spider suspension on a solid aircraft-grade aluminum frame. Vibration-reducing rubber feet keep it quiet on a paver deck. Tops come in travertine or granite, or custom stone to match the terrace, and the Coastal Source Cap Switch inverts phase by 180 degrees during tuning.
Concert Quality Outdoor Audio
The 12.0 Line Source Bollard
For properties where a conventional bollard runs out of room. The 12.0 is a ground-plane Line Source speaker that brings line-array technology to a residential yard, delivering high output and fidelity over a long throw rather than falling off after thirty feet. A patent-pending variable waveguide narrows dispersion along the array, and a proprietary four-layer Laminar Flow Grill System shields the drivers from ultraviolet light, water, dust, and corrosion while preventing water from puddling in the grille. On a deep lakefront lawn or a long waterfront terrace, it covers ground that would otherwise need twice the speaker count.
Amplification and System Design
Coastal Source builds its own CRS, CAS, and SAS amplifiers, which matter more outdoors than indoors. Load, cable length, impedance, and voltage drop must be worked out before opening a trench. By using matched Coastal Source components throughout the signal chain, we can design the system around the specific property, speaker locations, and cable runs. Definitive Electronics sizes amplification based on the actual zone layout and cable runs, not the channel count.
Landscape Lighting
Solid Brass From the Stake Up.
EVO, the Configurable Brass Platform
EVO is the core of Coastal Source’s lighting line and won a 2025 Technology Designer Performance Home Award. Its integrated LED module seals the electronics, optics, and connectors into one serviceable IP67-rated unit, and the module unscrews for replacement without pulling the fixture out of the ground or disturbing the surrounding planting. Five watts produces up to 560 lumens, outperforming the six-watt MR16 lamp it replaces, with beam angles up to 55 degrees and color temperatures of 2700K and 3000K.
Coastal Source lighting systems are assembled from parts rather than sold as finished SKUs. Path armatures and hats, wash trims, wall sconces in up, down, up and down, and shadow caster configurations, plus risers, shrouds, and accessories, combine into hundreds of unique fixture configurations. For a landscape designer, that means the fixture is specified to the plant and the wall, not the other way around. When a job wants simplicity, the same configurations are available preassembled as FLEX fixtures.
Brass and aluminum lighting fixtures carry a lifetime warranty for the original residential owner, provided the system is professionally installed and maintained.

Zones Programmed Around How the Property Is Used
A pool deck, summer kitchen, fire pit, dock, and a side garden all require different volumes at the same moment. We lay out zones so guests at the grill can hear conversation while music carries at the water, and so the system can be turned down at the property line without turning it down at the house. On a waterfront lot, sound travels much farther over open water than most homeowners expect. Definitive Electronics accounts for this during the initial design, helping create an outdoor audio system that sounds great without becoming a nuisance beyond the property.
Niche and FLEX Niche
A compact, all-brass family of LED fixtures designed for applications where a larger light would be too noticeable or difficult to place. The lineup includes Niche Escutcheon, Bullet, and Barrel lights, plus FLEX Niche options for flush mounting, surface mounting, uplighting, and wash lighting. These fixtures work well to illuminate the riser of a stone step, mark the edge of a dock or walkway, or add subtle light to landscape and architectural details where a larger fixture simply would not fit.
Fixture Categories and Finishes
Coastal Source offers a wide range of outdoor lighting, including uplights, downlights, area and pathway lights, hardscape and wall lights, wall wash lights, and in-grade and well lights. Fixtures are available in several finishes, with Vintage Brass being the most popular. This acid finish is applied to pure cast brass and creates a dark, brushed-brown appearance that naturally develops a patina over time rather than peeling or chipping. Nickel, White, Anodized Clear, and Anodized Black are also available on select fixtures. Designed for the demanding conditions of the Gulf, Atlantic, and Pacific coasts, Coastal Source lighting is designed and tested right here in Florida.
For lighting control design, keypads, scenes, and whole-home programming, see smart lighting and window treatments. Coastal Source VIA and Lutron HomeWorks are frequently specified together on the same property.

Integration
One App, Inside and Out.
Coastal Source outdoor lighting and audio don’t need to be separate systems. The yard belongs on the same keypads, the same app, and the same schedules as the rest of the house.
Because the lighting runs on Lutron platforms and the audio runs as standard zones, we integrate Coastal Source into whatever control system the property is already on. That means a single button by the back door brings up the terrace lighting, starts music at the pool, and leaves the dock dark. It means astronomic time clocks handle sunsets throughout the year without anyone touching a schedule. It means the landscape dims down at eleven and holds a low path level until morning.

The Coastal Connector
The Connection Is the Weak Point.
Coastal Source puts it plainly: the number one point of failure in every outdoor electrical system is the connection.
Twisted Closed by Hand, Sealed for the Life of the System
A conventional landscape installation is a series of field splices. Someone strips wire in a trench, crimps or twists a connection, applies a gel or silicone cap, and buries it. Each of those splices is a small bet against water, root movement, and years of Florida humidity. On a large property, there might be hundreds of them.

The Cable Matters as Much as the Connector
Coastal Source uses rugged, triple-jacketed cable with marine-grade tinned copper conductors, designed to withstand moisture, corrosion, and the demanding conditions of Florida landscapes.
Home runs, splitters, and Y cables allow the system to be carefully organized and documented during installation. If a cable or connection is ever damaged during landscaping or maintenance, the system can be traced and repaired without having to dig up the entire installation.
Installations That Can Be Changed Later
Because every device is a plug rather than a splice, the system stays serviceable. A fixture can be moved when a hedge fills in. A speaker can be swapped for a larger model when an outdoor kitchen is built. A run can be extended toward a new dock or putting green without opening a single buried joint. On a property that will be landscaped again in five years, that flexibility is worth more than any single specification.
Fewer Failure Points Mean Fewer Service Calls
Most outdoor audio and lighting service calls that Definitive Electronics is asked to take over aren’t product failures. They are connection failures, and they present as a fixture that flickers, a zone that drops out in the wet season, or a run that dims at the far end of the property.
Recongnition
A Record Award Year in 2025.
In 2025, Coastal Source received its most industry awards to date, recognizing both its product design and completed installation projects. Several award-winning projects were located in Florida, highlighting how Coastal Source products perform in the demanding environments they were designed to withstand.

Why Choose Definitive Electronics?
The Products Are Only Half of It.
Coastal Source equipment is designed to deliver years of reliable outdoor performance, but the overall system’s quality depends on more than the hardware. Proper design, installation, calibration, and ongoing service all play an important role in keeping the system performing at its best for years to come.
Design Before Hardware
Definitive Electronics starts with the property, not the product list. Where does the family actually sit, and when? Which trees are worth lighting and which will be gone in a renovation? Where does sound need to carry, and where does it need to stop? How mature will that hedge be in four years? The speaker count and fixture schedule come from those answers, not the other way around.
Coordination With the Trades Already On-Site
Outdoor systems are the most coordination-heavy work in residential technology, because the trench belongs to everyone. We work directly with the landscape architect, irrigation contractor, pool builder, hardscape crew, and electrician so that sleeves are set before pavers go down, and conduit is in before concrete. Retrofitting a run through a finished travertine terrace is expensive and avoidable.
Commissioning, Aiming, and Tuning
A lighting system is aimed at night, on-site, one fixture at a time, with the designer present. Beam spreads get swapped, risers get changed, and shrouds get added until the glare is gone and the light lands where it was intended. Audio is tuned at the volumes the household will actually use, with subwoofer phase and level calibrated on the deck rather than on paper.
Long-Term Service and Documentation
Definitive Electronics documents and hands over every plan: zone drawings, topology, connector locations, and control programming. Definitive Electronics is HTA Certified Estate Level, has more than 25 years in the business, and is fully licensed and insured in the state of Florida.
Common Questions About Outdoor Speakers and Landscape Lighting Systems
Coastal Source FAQs
The cost of a Coastal Source outdoor audio and lighting system depends on the size of the property, the areas being covered, the performance level desired, and the number and type of speakers, subwoofers, lighting fixtures, amplifiers, controls, and other components required.
Coastal Source is a premium, professionally designed system rather than an off-the-shelf outdoor audio or landscape lighting solution. A smaller pool or patio installation will have very different requirements than a large waterfront estate with multiple entertainment areas, extensive landscaping, and integrated lighting and audio. Definitive Electronics designs each Coastal Source system around the property, the homeowner’s priorities, and the desired experience. Get a quote.
Coastal Source is a particularly good choice for Florida homes because its outdoor audio and lighting products are purpose-built for demanding exterior environments. Florida properties expose outdoor technology to intense sun, heat, humidity, heavy rain, irrigation, insects, fertilizers, and, near the coast, corrosive salt air.
Coastal Source addresses these challenges throughout the system, including weather-resistant speakers, solid brass lighting fixtures, marine-grade tinned wiring, and its patented Plug+Play connections. This system-based approach makes Coastal Source well-suited to Florida homeowners who want high-performance outdoor technology designed for long-term use rather than equipment that must be frequently repaired or replaced.
Yes. An authorized dealer should design and install a Coastal Source lighting or audio system. Coastal Source sells its products through trained, certified dealers and contractors who understand how to design, specify, install, and support its systems properly.
Professional design is particularly important for larger properties where speaker placement, sound coverage, lighting design, cabling, amplification, control, landscaping, and environmental conditions all affect the finished result. Definitive Electronics, a Coastal Source Platinum Dealer, can design and install a complete Coastal Source system and integrate it with the home’s other technology when appropriate. Get a quote.
The difference between Coastal Source and many other premium outdoor speaker systems begins with the fact that Coastal Source specializes in outdoor environments. Its speakers are purpose-built for exterior use, with an emphasis on high-fidelity performance, durability, reliable connections, and system longevity.
Coastal Source also approaches outdoor audio as a complete engineered system. Speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, cables, and weatherproof connectors are designed to work together. The result can be very different from simply placing several weather-resistant speakers around a yard. A professionally designed Coastal Source system can deliver balanced, consistent sound throughout large outdoor spaces while maintaining the performance expected from a premium audio system.
Yes. Coastal Source speakers are specifically engineered for permanent outdoor installation and exposure to demanding environmental conditions. The company designs its outdoor audio products to withstand moisture, heat, irrigation, and other conditions that can quickly damage conventional speakers.
Just as important, Coastal Source addresses one of the most vulnerable parts of an outdoor system: the connections. Its Plug+Play system uses waterproof and airtight IP68 connectors along with rugged outdoor cabling to help protect the integrity of the entire audio system.
Coastal Source outdoor speakers are designed for long-term outdoor use, but no single number of years applies to every installation. Environmental exposure, installation quality, system design, maintenance, and use can affect lifespan.
Coastal Source distinguishes itself by engineering durability into the complete system rather than treating it as an afterthought. Speakers, cables, connections, and related components are designed specifically for harsh outdoor environments. Coastal Source also provides a limited residential warranty on its products (view details here).
Coastal Source outdoor speakers are not wireless speakers. They are connected to high-performance amplification using Coastal Source cabling and weatherproof connections. This hardwired approach is intentional and is designed to provide greater reliability and audio performance outdoors.
That does not mean homeowners give up wireless convenience. Music can still be selected and controlled wirelessly through a compatible music or home automation system. Definitive Electronics can integrate Coastal Source audio so homeowners have convenient control without relying on wireless connections between the amplifier and outdoor speakers.
Yes. Coastal Source can be installed around an existing pool, patio, outdoor kitchen, or other finished outdoor living spaces. In fact, these are ideal environments for a distributed outdoor audio system because sound can be designed for the areas where people actually gather.
Rather than relying on one or two speakers playing loudly across the entire backyard, Definitive Electronics can strategically position speakers and subwoofers across the property. This creates more consistent coverage at comfortable listening levels while preserving the appearance and functionality of the existing outdoor environment. Get a quote.
Yes. Coastal Source can provide high-end outdoor audio across large estates, including properties with multiple patios, pools, gardens, lawns, guest areas, docks, and other outdoor destinations.
The key is system design. Definitive Electronics can distribute the appropriate Coastal Source speakers and subwoofers throughout the property to create consistent coverage rather than trying to fill a large estate with a few excessively loud speakers. Different areas can also be designed around their use, from subtle background music in a garden to higher-performance audio around a pool or primary entertainment area.
Yes. Different outdoor areas can have independent music and volume control when the Coastal Source audio system is designed as part of a multi-zone audio or home automation system.
For example, homeowners may want one listening level around the pool, different music near an outdoor kitchen, and quieter background audio near a terrace or garden. Definitive Electronics can design these areas as separate audio zones and integrate control with compatible home automation and music systems, giving homeowners much greater flexibility over how outdoor spaces are used.
Keeping a high-performance outdoor audio system from disturbing the neighbors starts with proper speaker placement and sound system design. The goal is to deliver clear, balanced sound where people are listening rather than simply increasing the volume enough to cover the entire property.
Definitive Electronics uses multiple, strategically positioned speakers to distribute sound more evenly and keep listening levels comfortable. Speaker direction, property boundaries, neighboring homes, landscaping, outdoor seating areas, and subwoofer placement are strategically planned during the design. This is especially important for waterfront properties, where sound can travel differently across open spaces and water.
Yes. Coastal Source audio and lighting can be incorporated into a broader smart home experience, depending on the products and control platform selected. Definitive Electronics can design the system so outdoor entertainment and lighting are coordinated with the technology used throughout the home.
Coastal Source’s VIA intelligent outdoor lighting platform takes this integration further by incorporating native Lutron control with tunable white light, color, precision dimming, and dynamic lighting scenes. This can create a more unified experience between interior and exterior lighting.
Yes. Coastal Source solid brass landscape lights naturally develop a patina as they age and are exposed to the outdoor environment. Patina is a normal change in brass’s surface and is not the same as the deterioration associated with rusting steel or failing surface coatings.
Coastal Source actually recommends allowing the natural aging process to occur. The evolving finish can help the fixtures blend beautifully into mature landscaping while the solid brass construction remains durable underneath.
A properly designed and installed Coastal Source system is intended to require relatively little maintenance. Its outdoor lighting fixtures, speakers, cabling, and connectors are engineered specifically to withstand demanding exterior environments.
That does not mean an outdoor system should never be inspected. Landscaping grows, irrigation patterns change, storms occur, and outdoor spaces evolve. Periodic professional system checks can identify obstructed speakers or lighting fixtures, landscape changes, physical damage, or other issues before they affect performance. Definitive Electronics provides ongoing support as the property and technology change.
Yes. Coastal Source systems can be designed with future changes and expansion in mind. This is particularly valuable because landscapes are living environments. Trees and plantings mature, pools and patios may be renovated, and homeowners may add new outdoor entertainment areas over time.
Coastal Source’s Plug+Play approach lets you reconfigure and upgrade compatible components as outdoor spaces change. Definitive Electronics evaluates the existing system and determines how to reposition or expand speakers, lighting, cabling, and other components to accommodate the property’s new layout. Get a quote.
Coastal Source provides substantial residential warranty coverage for professionally installed and maintained systems. Its brass and aluminum lighting fixtures carry a lifetime warranty. Coastal Connectors, cables, LED lamps and modules, speakers, Coastal Source amplifiers, transformers, electronic components, and specialty finishes carry a five-year limited warranty. Third-party products retain their original manufacturer’s warranty.
Specific terms and exclusions apply, so homeowners should refer to Coastal Source’s current warranty documentation for complete details. Warranty claims are generally processed through the installing dealer.
Coastal Source speakers and lighting fixtures are well-suited to docks and waterfront properties because they were originally developed for demanding coastal environments in South Florida. Salt air, moisture, heat, rain, irrigation, and other environmental factors can be particularly hard on conventional outdoor electronics and connections.
For waterfront homes, Definitive Electronics can design outdoor audio and lighting for terraces, pools, lawns, pathways, waterfront entertaining areas, and appropriate dock environments, while considering exposure, sound coverage, neighboring properties, and the estate’s architecture and landscaping. Get a quote.
Coastal Source is specifically designed to bring high-fidelity audio performance outdoors. Outdoor audio presents different acoustic challenges than indoor listening, including open spaces, large listening areas, environmental noise, and the absence of walls that normally help define an indoor sound.
Coastal Source products address these challenges with purpose-built speakers, subwoofers, amplification, and sound system design options that deliver clear, balanced, dynamic sound at both background and higher listening levels. For Florida homeowners who care deeply about music quality, Definitive Electronics can design the system for specific zones on their property rather than treating outdoor audio as simple background entertainment.
