What is Lutron HomeWorks?
A Professional Home Automation Control System.
Lutron HomeWorks QSX is the only residential control system built natively around Lutron’s entire catalog.
Architectural lighting, window treatments, and hand-crafted keypads are all engineered to work together from the start. Professionally installed and programmed by a trained Diamond Dealer, it brings every zone in the home under a single, conditionally responsive system. One tap of a keypad sets the entire home.
Automation Industry Leader
From the first dimmer to the first whole-home control system, Lutron has spent 60 years solving the problems that matter most. HomeWorks is the current expression of that history: refined, tested, and backed by the most comprehensive warranty in the smart automation industry.
Native Lutron Integration
HomeWorks is the only system engineered to work natively with Ketra full-spectrum lighting, Sivoia and Palladiom shade systems, Rania precision lamps, Lumaris tape lighting, and the complete Lutron keypad family. No bridges, no workarounds. Native from the ground up.
Infinite Design Compatibility
Beyond Lutron’s native ecosystem, HomeWorks integrates with more third-party smart home devices than any other whole-home lighting control system: audio, AV, climate, security, voice, and more. The result is a single programmed environment, not a collection of competing apps.
Engineered Reliability
Every HomeWorks component is factory-tested and backed by an extensive warranty. Non-volatile memory retains all programming and time clock data even through power events. The system is backed by Lutron’s cloud and supported remotely by Definitive Electronics.
Adaptable Custom Control
Built to Reach Every Corner.
HomeWorks QSX adapts to virtually any residential project: new construction or retrofit, wireless or wired, single-structure or multi-building compound. Three core technologies make this possible.
Expansive Wireless Coverage
HomeWorks communicates over Lutron’s Clear Connect RF technology (not Wi-Fi). This purpose-built radio frequency network supports up to 10,000 zones and can cover more than 50,000 square feet across multiple structures. It is engineered to perform reliably in the RF-dense environment of a modern Florida estate or high-rise building.
Centralized Low-Voltage Wiring
QS wired link technology provides a trusted infrastructure for homes where wireless alone is insufficient, such as those with thick walls, dense construction, or multi-story complexity. Wired HomeWorks supports panelized centralized lighting, wired shade systems, and deep AV integration protocols that are unavailable in most other wireless-only platforms.
Cloud-Powered Tools
Lutron Connect provides a cloud-powered platform for the design, installation, and ongoing support of any HomeWorks system. Definitive Electronics can push programming revisions, respond to service requests, and deliver adjustments remotely without a technician in your home. All programming is backed up in Lutron’s cloud.
Designed for Florida
HomeWorks Was Built for Homes Like These.
South and Central Florida’s finest residences – waterfront estates, private compounds, golf community homes, and high-tower condominiums – present a scale and complexity that consumer lighting systems cannot address. HomeWorks was designed for exactly these types of properties.
Canal, Ocean, and Intracoastal Estates
Large glass walls, direct sun exposure, and the need to manage glare, privacy, and solar heat gain simultaneously, all while preserving a priceless view. HomeWorks programs motorized shades to respond to solar angles by time of day and season, while Ketra lighting compensates for changing natural light quality throughout the interior.
Inland Estates with Multi-Structure Coverage
A Hobe Sound or Palm Beach Gardens compound with a main residence, guest house, pool pavilion, sport court, and garage requires a single system that provides unified control across all structures. HomeWorks supports up to 16 processors on one system, covering estates exceeding 50,000 square feet. One scene activates the entire property.
Golf Course and Country Club Homes
Golf community estates in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and Boca Raton often feature expansive open-plan interiors, panoramic course views, and covered lanai environments that blur the line between indoors and out. HomeWorks manages all zones, including interior, exterior, landscape, and pool, as a single coordinated experience.
High-Rise Condominiums and Penthouses
Concrete construction that limits wire runs, building management requirements, and dense RF environments require a purpose-built solution. HomeWorks QSX MDU processors are designed specifically for multi-unit buildings and operate on Clear Connect RF technology for reliable wireless performance in any high-rise environment.
“This project was a long time in the making. Thomas our salesman was so patient with us when we were figuring out which way we wanted to go. Thanks Thomas. Joseph is our project manager and he made this project go so smoothly. He followed up with us numerous times to see if our contractor was ready for him. When the time came to install the system Joseph was the first one there to talk through the entire project with us. He spent a lot of time with our contractor to make sure the new sound system would not interfere with what the contractor was doing. Next came the two installers (techs) Arty and Vova certainly know what they are doing and installed everything perfectly. Arty even consulted with us to verify the location of each piece of equipment. We were not sure spending the money for this was worth it, I can tell you it was worth every penny. What a system. We cant wait for football season to start! I could go on and on but you get the point. Look no further than Definitive Electronics!”

Project Types
Every Phase of Ownership.
Every Type of Property.
Estate Renovation
A Full System Upgrade
Major renovations open walls and provide easier access for HomeWorks wiring and installation. This is the ideal moment to replace an aging control system, add Ketra tunable lighting throughout the primary living areas, upgrade to Palladiom shade systems, and reprogram the home to reflect how the household lives today.
New Construction
Design from the Ground Up
The optimal scenario for a HomeWorks QSX system. With access during pre-wire, every conduit run, shade pocket, keypad location, and panel room placement is designed correctly from the start. Definitive Electronics coordinates with the builder, electrician, architect, and lighting designer throughout the design development process.
High-Rise Condominium
Wireless-First in Concrete Construction
HomeWorks QSX MDU processors are designed specifically for multi-unit buildings where concrete construction limits hard-wired runs. Wireless keypads, shade motors, and lighting controls operate on Lutron’s Clear Connect RF (not Wi-Fi) for reliable performance across any building’s RF environment.
Retrofit with Wireless Expansion
When Walls Cannot Be Opened
A completed home can be upgraded with HomeWorks QSX wireless components: Clear Connect Type X devices, wireless shade motors, and the wireless processor gateway. A well-designed wireless HomeWorks system still delivers the scene programming depth, Ketra integration, and professional keypad experience unavailable in any consumer system.

Orchestrated Comfort 24/7
Every Moment Has
Its Own Light.
HomeWorks scenes are not preset dimmer levels. They are conditionally programmed sequences that respond to time of day, solar position, occupancy, and the rhythms of the household. The system knows what time the sun sets where you live in Florida on any date of the year and adjusts without instruction.
Morning
Shades rise gradually over 20 minutes, Ketra lighting transitions from amber to morning daylight, and the home moves from sleep to day without a single command.
Study / Work
Daylight-balanced light in the office or library adjusts automatically as natural light shifts through the glass, maintaining a consistent, focused environment from 9am to dusk.
Arrive
Driveway and entry lighting activates, the great room transitions from task light to warm ambience, the pool zone comes on, and the AV system initializes for the evening.
Dining
The dining zone drops to a precise candlelight level, the kitchen dims to accent, outdoor lighting activates at lower levels, and the sound volume lowers.
Entertain
Every entertainment zone is set: great room at 60%, kitchen at task, outdoor zones on, pool lighting vivid, music distributed to all interior and exterior zones.
Movie Night
Blackout shades deploy in the media room, the lighting dims to zero, the AV system powers on, the surround sound initializes, and the projector or display activates with a single keypad touch.
Sleep
The whole home fades to 5%, path lighting activates for navigation, Ketra enters a slow circadian wind-down cycle, and the security system prepares to arm.
Away
Every light extinguishes in a 30-second sequence, all shades close to their programmed privacy positions, and the system confirms status before departure.
Vacation
The home maintains a natural lighting pattern while unoccupied: lights on and off in living patterns, perimeter lighting active, and security integration monitoring throughout.
Lutron HomeWorks Components
Every Element Works in Concert.
HomeWorks is a complete ecosystem. Every component is engineered by Lutron to work with every other component from day one. Definitive Electronics specifies, programs, and calibrates the full stack.
Intelligent and Layered Lighting
Ketra full-spectrum fixtures, Rania precision downlights, and Lumaris tape lighting are all natively integrated with HomeWorks. Natural Show circadian sequences shift color temperature and intensity through the day to track the arc of natural light, automatically, based on the property’s geographic coordinates.
Wall Controls and Remotes
Palladiom and Alisse keypads are available in more than 50 finishes and metals, laser-engraved with scene labels that reflect how the household actually lives. They are the visible interface of the system: tactile, precise, and entirely custom. Pico remotes extend control anywhere in the home without wiring.
Window Treatments
Sivoia QS wired and Palladiom wireless shade systems are programmed directly into HomeWorks scenes and solar schedules. Shades respond to time of day, solar angle, and scene commands simultaneously. Motorized drapery, roller, sheer, and blackout systems are all supported (wired and wireless).
Motion and Daylight Sensors
Occupancy and daylight sensors allow the system to respond intelligently without a keypad press. Turning lights off in unoccupied rooms, adjusting lighting levels as natural light changes through a window, and activating entry sequences as you approach the property.
Equipment and Processors
The HomeWorks QSX HQP7 processor is the system’s brain; rack-mounted, backed by non-volatile memory with a ten-year time clock retention, and cloud-connected for remote programming and support.
Software and Apps
Lutron Designer software provides professional programming depth – conditional logic, solar scheduling, and bidirectional integration with third-party platforms. The Lutron app provides remote access and scene control from anywhere in the world. Definitive Electronics programs and validates every scene before handoff.

Natural Show
Your Home Knows
What Time It Is.
Natural Show is a HomeWorks-exclusive programming feature that tracks the arc of sunlight at your property’s specific geographic coordinates, shifting Ketra lighting from the amber of dawn through midday brilliance to the warm tones of evening, automatically. It is the closest thing to natural light that artificial light has ever produced.

Seamless Integration
Lutron HomeWorks™ Connects Everything.
HomeWorks integrates with more smart home devices than any other whole-home lighting control system. Definitive Electronics designs and programs every integration, so the client never has to troubleshoot a third-party pairing on move-in day.
Distributed Sound Systems
Whole-Home Audio
HomeWorks connects to Sonance, Bluesound, Bang & Olufsen, and other premium audio platforms for unified multi-room control. An Entertain scene from a keypad can simultaneously set every lighting zone and distribute music to every speaker zone.
Dedicated Media and Entertainment Rooms
Luxury Home Theaters
HomeWorks controls projectors, surround-sound receivers, and streaming devices via Telnet, RS-232, and IP (full bidirectional integration). A single keypad tap dims the lighting, closes the blackout shades, powers on the AV stack, and sets the room to the correct viewing scene.
Private, Powerful, and Personalized
Voice Control
HomeWorks integrates with Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Home for convenient voice control of supported smart lighting, shades, and scenes. For more advanced whole-home voice control, Josh.ai adds natural-language, private capabilities that can interpret contextual and compound commands across multiple integrated systems.
Home Security Systems
Surveillance and Access Control
HomeWorks integrates with Alarms.com, Honeywell, and leading security platforms via contact closures and IP. A front door opening activates an entry lighting sequence. A security arm command triggers the whole-home Night scene. Departure mode confirms shade positions, extinguishes all lighting, and confirms system status.
Why Definitive Electronics?
Experience That
Shows Up in the Programming.
A Lutron HomeWorks system is only as good as the dealer who programs it. The hardware is the same regardless of who installs it. The difference becomes apparent in the depth of the programming: the conditional logic, the solar scheduling precision, the scene transitions that feel natural rather than mechanical.
Definitive Electronics has been programming Lutron systems in South and Central Florida since 1999. We hold Diamond Dealer status and HTA Estate Level certification, the industry’s most selective designation for large, complex residential projects. We are the single point of contact for your HomeWorks system from design through long-term service.
For clients with ongoing needs, we offer annual service agreements that include remote monitoring, priority scheduling, programming updates as the household evolves, and regular system reviews. When something changes, such as a renovation, a new family member, or a new AV system, we update the program to match.

Lutron HomeWorks FAQs
Yes. Many older Lutron HomeWorks systems can be upgraded to HomeWorks QSX, but the scope depends heavily on the generation of the HomeWorks system and the equipment already installed in the home.
For example, Lutron provides documented upgrade paths for both HomeWorks QS and older HomeWorks Illumination systems. Existing QS project databases can be converted to QSX, while Lutron also provides tools and specific procedures for migrating an Illumination system.
An upgrade does not necessarily mean replacing everything. In some older panelized systems, existing RPM and Specification Grade Panels can be retained and connected to QSX using Lutron’s Panel Link to QS Link Translator. Existing wiring can also be reused in a number of upgrade scenarios. However, some legacy components are not compatible with QSX and must be replaced. With HomeWorks Illumination, for example, Lutron states that legacy keypads and Sivoia QED shades require replacement, while certain older panel equipment can remain.
Moving to QSX can provide access to Lutron’s current HomeWorks capabilities, including intelligent lighting, newer luxury keypads, current shading solutions, improved LED dimming, modern third-party integration, app control, and remote servicing.
Because every legacy HomeWorks installation is different, the first step should be a system assessment rather than assuming a complete replacement is necessary. Definitive Electronics can identify the existing processors, panels, controls, shades, wiring, and programming, determine what can be retained, and develop an upgrade path to HomeWorks QSX that protects as much of the original investment as is practical.
In a professionally designed smart home, it usually isn’t an either-or decision. Lutron can serve as the dedicated lighting and shading control system, while Crestron, Control4, or Savant provides broader whole-home automation. The two systems are integrated so they feel like one experience to the homeowner.
This approach allows Lutron HomeWorks to handle the specialized functions it was engineered for, including dimming, lighting scenes, architectural keypads, motorized shades, and intelligent lighting technologies such as Ketra. The home automation platform can then incorporate those lighting and shading functions into larger routines involving audio, video, climate, security, access control, and other systems.
For example, selecting a Movie scene from a Crestron, Control4, or Savant interface could tell HomeWorks to dim specific lights and lower the shades while the automation system turns on the display, selects the movie source, adjusts the temperature, and prepares the audio system.
There is another important advantage: the home’s essential lighting controls are not dependent on the broader automation system for everyday operation. HomeWorks keypads and programmed lighting functions can continue operating locally even if the AV or home automation system experiences an issue.
The best architecture depends on the size and complexity of the residence. Definitive Electronics designs the lighting, shading, and home automation systems together so homeowners get Lutron’s specialized lighting capabilities without sacrificing the simplicity of unified whole-home control.
A Lutron Diamond Dealer has achieved a high level of standing within Lutron’s professional dealer program, reflecting substantial experience with Lutron systems. For homeowners planning sophisticated lighting and shading, the designation is an important indicator that they are working with a company that has made a significant commitment to Lutron technology.
Lutron requires authorized providers to complete training to design, sell, and install its solutions. For advanced residential systems such as HomeWorks, choosing an experienced Lutron dealer is particularly important, as the integrator is responsible for far more than just installing dimmers. The system must be properly designed, programmed, commissioned, and coordinated with lighting fixtures, motorized shades, keypads, electrical systems, and other home technologies.
Dealer experience also matters over the long term. A HomeWorks system may remain in a residence for many years, so homeowners should consider who will document and support the system, make programming changes, troubleshoot issues, and help accommodate renovations or future technology upgrades.
Definitive Electronics is a Lutron Diamond Dealer with extensive experience designing and integrating Lutron lighting and shading systems for luxury residences. Our team can coordinate HomeWorks, intelligent lighting, motorized shades, architectural keypads, and integration with Crestron, Control4, Savant, and other home technologies as part of a complete residential system. Not by itself. Like any hardwired lighting control system, Lutron HomeWorks requires electrical power to operate. If a Florida home loses utility power and has no backup power source, the HomeWorks processors, lighting loads, keypads, and other powered components will not continue operating normally.
The important distinction is between a power outage and an internet outage. HomeWorks does not rely on the cloud for normal local lighting control. If your internet service goes down but the home still has power, local functions such as keypads, lighting scenes, schedules, and shade control can continue to operate. Remote access and cloud-dependent features may be unavailable until the internet connection returns.
For Florida homes where hurricanes, tropical storms, and utility interruptions are a concern, HomeWorks can be incorporated into a broader backup-power strategy. Depending on the property, that may include a whole-home generator, battery energy storage, UPS protection for critical control and networking equipment, or a combination of these systems. Proper planning determines which lighting circuits, processors, network components, and other essential technologies remain powered during an outage.
Definitive Electronics can coordinate the HomeWorks system with the home’s electrical and backup-power design so critical lighting and control functions are considered as part of the overall resilience plan.
Natural Show is a Lutron intelligent lighting feature that automatically changes the color temperature and intensity of electric light throughout the day to complement the natural progression of daylight. Mornings can begin with warmer, softer light, transition to brighter and cooler light around midday, and return to warmer, lower light in the evening.
The effect is particularly compelling with Ketra and Rania, whose broad color-temperature ranges allow indoor lighting to closely follow the changing character of daylight. Lutron describes Natural Show as a way to “bring the outside in,” creating a more natural relationship between daylight entering through the windows and the electric lighting inside the home. In a Lutron case study, Ketra lighting controlled by HomeWorks automatically changes throughout the day to coordinate indoor light with the daylight outdoors.
Natural Show requires HomeWorks QSX because the automated show functionality is programmed and managed by the HomeWorks system. Lutron Designer provides dedicated Natural Show programming for HomeWorks QSX, allowing an integrator to configure the show and incorporate it into the home’s lighting controls and scenes.
This distinction is important because some intelligent Lutron lighting can also be used with RadioRA 3. For example, Lumaris is compatible with both platforms. However, RadioRA 3 uses a simpler Day/Night Mode rather than the full Natural Show functionality available through HomeWorks QSX.
For homeowners who want dynamic lighting to evolve naturally throughout the day as part of a sophisticated whole-home lighting design, Natural Show is one of the capabilities that makes HomeWorks the more advanced Lutron platform.
Lutron HomeWorks and RadioRA 3 are both professionally installed lighting control systems, but they are designed for different levels of scale, customization, and architectural integration.
HomeWorks QSX is Lutron’s flagship residential control system, designed for luxury homes and larger, more sophisticated projects. It supports both wired and wireless devices, significantly larger system capacities, advanced programming, architectural keypads such as Palladiom and Alisse, extensive motorized shading options, and Lutron’s premium intelligent lighting technologies. HomeWorks is also designed for projects in which lighting, shades, and other home technologies need to be closely coordinated throughout the residence.
RadioRA 3 is a streamlined, primarily wireless solution that is particularly well suited to existing homes, renovations, and smaller projects where running extensive control wiring may not be practical. It provides sophisticated lighting and shade control, designer Sunnata RF keypads and controls, app access, scenes, schedules, and integration with compatible smart-home technologies, but it does not offer the scale or full range of design and programming capabilities available with HomeWorks.
The decision is therefore about more than the number of lights in the home.
RadioRA 3 is an excellent choice when simplicity, retrofit flexibility, and professional lighting control are the priorities.
HomeWorks is the better platform when the project requires greater scale, architectural customization, advanced lighting and shading, or more sophisticated automation.
Definitive Electronics evaluates the home’s architecture, lighting design, shading requirements, automation system, and future plans before recommending HomeWorks or RadioRA 3, ensuring the Lutron system is designed around the project rather than simply choosing the highest-tier platform.
Lutron HomeWorks QSX is Lutron’s flagship residential control system; a professionally installed, wired and wireless hybrid platform that provides centralized, conditionally programmed control of every lighting circuit, motorized shade, and integrated system in a home.
It is not a consumer product. It requires a trained and authorized dealer to design, install, and program it, and it is never self-configured by the homeowner after move-in.
Consumer smart lighting controls individual fixtures from a phone. HomeWorks controls the experience of every room simultaneously, with scenes that respond to time of day, solar position, occupancy, and real-world variables. The system supports up to 10,000 zones and homes up to 50,000 square feet.
