The same planar magnetic driver technology as the indoor line, rated to IP56 and MilSpec 810 standards for humidity, salt air, temperature, UV exposure, and rain.

A conventional speaker radiates sound as an expanding sphere – pressure decreases by 6dB every time you double the distance from the speaker. Significant energy also bounces off the floor, ceiling, and walls before reaching your ears, adding coloration and blurring the image.
A line source speaker radiates sound as a cylindrical wave from a vertical array of drivers. The signal rolls off at only 3dB per doubling of distance, and the floor and ceiling interactions are dramatically reduced.
The practical result in a Florida great room with hard floors, high ceilings, and large glass surfaces is a more even, natural, and immersive listening experience across the full seating area.
A planar magnetic driver uses a very thin, lightweight film (the same polyimide material used in aerospace applications) printed with a conductive circuit pattern and suspended between arrays of permanent magnets. When an audio signal passes through the circuit, the entire film surface moves in response, driving air uniformly across the full radiating area.
Because there is no cone, no spider, no surround, and no voice coil, the distortion mechanisms that define conventional drivers are simply absent. Peak output capacity is also higher for a given driver size, which is why the flagship Wisdom Series LS4i reaches 130dB peak output.
The driver technology is the foundation of the difference. Conventional speakers use a cone or dome driver attached to a voice coil that moves back and forth in a magnetic gap. That mechanical process introduces resonance, distortion, and coloration that the designer then spends the rest of the engineering process trying to mitigate. Wisdom Audio uses planar magnetic drivers: a thin polyimide film driven across its entire surface with no moving mass and no voice coil. The result is a fundamentally cleaner signal path with lower distortion across the full audible range. The line source format further reduces room interaction, meaning the speaker sounds more consistent across a wider listening area than any point-source design.
